Vadodara: A 74-year-old man was allegedly murdered for pulling up two persons for making noise outside his house. Mahendra Patel, a resident of Bhatwada locality Old City was, beaten by Abhi Patni, Rajesh Patni and Yash Patel after he reprimanded them for disturbing children who were studying for their exams.

Hemant Patel, son of the deceased, told the police that Abhi, Rajesh and Yash were idling outside his house and talking loudly when his father intervened. The trio who got into an argument later used cricket stumps and iron rods to assault the old man. The incident took place around 5.30pm.

Patel was rushed to a private hospital from where he was referred to the SSG hospital. According to the hospital authorities, Mahendra died of severe injuries on his head and chest.

The locals tried to intervene when the old man was assaulted but the accused fled from the spot when Mahendra collapsed.

"We have booked three persons for murder. Mahendra's relatives told us that the youths have been frequently creating rucks and disturbing people in the locality," said R R Vasava, Wadi police inspector .

Hemant told the police that his father was an employee of Jyoti Limited. After his retirement, Mahendra was driving a rickshaw to earn his livelihood. He had stopped driving a year ago and was mostly home.
