VADODARA: Sayajigunj police inspector RG Bhavsar was suspended by police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana late on Tuesday night for not investigating two riot and murder cases properly.
Bhavsar, who had joined Sayajigunj police station in the first week of March, will also face departmental action for gross insubordination and negligence of duty.
Bhavsar was asked to investigate three cases, two of rioting and one of attempt to murder, by the police department.

He, however, failed to probe the cases properly. "Bhavsar has been suspended for insubordination and negligence of duty. He didn't investigate the cases of rioting and murder bid properly," said Asthaana.
"He failed to take proper preventive action during the rioting incident in Fatehgunj. Also, he handed over the investigation to a PSI instead of handling the case himself," Asthaana told TOI.
Over 33 people were arrested in a communal riot in Kalyan Nagar colony on March 5, 2008 wherein groups belonging to different communities clashed with each other over a minor issue. Police had to lob three tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Bhavsar faced flak from his seniors for reaching the spot late and failing to quell the violence. "It is election time and such inaction from cops may send wrong a messege to the people. Hence, we took action against Bhavsar," said Asthaana.
