President medal for Asthaana,PSI Rozia

VADODARA: City police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana has been awarded the President's Police Medal for distinguished services. He will receive the medal today along with 12 other officers. Asthaana has been honoured for his stints with CBI, Special Investigation Team (SIT) and his role in investigations of Ahmedabad bombing case last year. He is heading the SIT probe into Sabarmati Express carnage.
Asthaana had also received appreciation for cracking Ahmedabad blasts case, where three persons were arrested from Vadodara for planning the attack. PSI Bhavesh Rozia, posted with Vadodara (rural) police department too has been awarded the medal.
Rozia was responsible for nabbing a notorious bootlegger Pradeep Thakker in late 2007. Posted at Shinor checkpost, Rozia tried to flag down a car which he suspected to be laden with illegal booze. The driver, Thakker, tried to run over him. Rozia clung on to the vehicle's side. For almost two hours, Thakker's gang members kept hitting him from inside the speeding car. Finally, Rozia pulled out his revolver, fired a few warning shots and aimed at the driver's leg. A police highway patrol van saw the drama, chased the car and nabbed the criminals.
Besides Asthaana and Rozia, deputy police commissioner (Ahmedabad rural) RB Rana, DGP office staff officer NS Joshi, inspector KS Savani, sub-inspector NS Chavda, sub-inspector (wireless communications) LB Bhiraniya, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) CID crime KA Visani, ASI (Amreli) BJ Pathak, ASI (vigilance) Shivram Ambubhai, head constable RA Bhaduriya, head constable RR Bhambhla will receive the medals.
