VADODARA: Ahraj Khan, the geology student at Faculty of Science, who had repeatedly slapped a teacher on the campus, appeared at the university’s head office on Wednesday.
However, university officials declined to meet Khan, who was accompanied by his father. They asked the duo to remain present before a seven-member committee formed to look into the incident which has shamed the university and raised serious questions on the security on the campus.
Sources also claim Ahraj is linked with the Nationalist Student Union of India (NSUI).
The committee was constituted on Wednesday and it will submit start work on Thursday. The panel is headed by professor R C
Patel and includes dean of Faculty of Arts professor K Krishnan, dean of Faculty of Science professor A C Sharma, syndicate members Vijaysinh Rathod, Hemal Mehta, head of university’s vigilance staff P P Kanani and has Mayank Vyas as member secretary.
It was on Monday that Ahraj had banged into a group of teachers of Faculty of Arts at the coffee house near Hansa Mehta Library. After the coffee spilled over the dress of a lady teacher, a male teacher Pradeep Vegad had asked Khan to at least tender an apology. But instead of apologising the accused student slapped Vegad multiple times and fled from the spot.
