VADODARA: Thanks to a lecturer in M S University, now finding a blood donor in the city will be a click away. The lecturer from MSU's technology faculty's mechanical department Mukesh Keshwani along with his students and friends has started a website which will provide details of blood donors in the city.
"From the most common blood group to rarest, the database of all donors will be available on the site.
You can also register yourself as a donor on the site and help someone's life. All the facilities will be available at free of cost," Keshwani shared.
Keshwani said that when they would get a request for a particular blood group from a patient or his family, they will inform donors of that blood group through an SMS. "We plan to encourage college students and executives to register with our site as donors. For those who cannot access internet, we will put up forms at hospitals, chemists shops and laboratories. Once they fill up the forms, we would upload their details on the site," third year mechanical engineering student from technology faculty Nidhish Gupta said.
The group also plans to start helpline number and would be carrying out extensive blood donation awareness drive in the city. "In the first phase, we want to cover Vadodara and nearby areas. In the next phase we will launch similar sites for Ahmedabad, Anand and Bharuch. Our aim is to cover 50 cities in the state that will have their own website catering to local needs," another third year mechanical engineering student from technology faculty Nirav Parikh said.
They also plan to come out with blood donors' directory which will be available across all hospitals, laboratories and chemist shops. "Last year, when my father was undergoing a surgery, we had a tough time finding a blood donor. It was after this personal agony that I felt the need to start something that will help common man," Keshwani said.
