VADODARA: The 65th annual convocation of M S University will be held on Saturday afternoon.

While eminent political theorist, former vice-chancellor of MSU and member of UK’s

House of Lords

professor

Bhikhu Parekh

is the guest of honour, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, MSU’s

eminent alumni

well known as father of

India’s first supercomputer

– PARAM – will be the chief guest during the convocation ceremony.

Both Parekh and Bhatkar, who is presently chairman of Pune-based ETH

Research Laboratory

will deliver convocation address.

The university will also confer honorary degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) to Anil Naik, group executive chairman of Larsen & Toubro Limited and Dilip Shanghvi, chairman and managing director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited.

While Naik has served as chairman of IIM-A, billionaire Shanghvi has been recently appointed as chairman of board of governors of IIT Bombay. Both Naik and Shanghvi will deliver acceptance addresses during the ceremony.

MSU chancellor Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad will preside over the convocation and confer the degrees and post graduate diplomas upon the students during the ceremony in which a total of 155 gold medalists will be conferred 259 gold medals.

Like in the past, girls will outshine boys during the annual convocation ceremony. This year, 105 girl students will bag 169 gold medals. In contrast, 50

male students

will be conferred 90 gold medals.

Also, a total of 5,928 female students of various faculties will be conferred degrees. Against this, the number of male students who will bag degrees stands at 3,842. A total of 9,770 students will be conferred degrees.

Even in terms of PhDs, there are more number of female students who will be awarded their PhD degrees. Of the total 99 PhD awardees, 50 female students will be awarded their PhDs.
