VADODARA: Students of MS University's faculty of performing arts will pay tribute to legendary maestro of Hindustani classical music Ustad Faiyaz Khan on his 59th death anniversary on Thursday.
Faculty students, along with their teachers, will place wreaths at Faiyaz Khan's mazaar' at Shiya Kabristan in Karelibaug.
"Although he was born at Sikandara near Agra, where he was brought up by his maternal grandfather Ghulam Abbas, it was Vadodara which was his karmabhumi'.
His grandfather taught him music up to the age of 25.
Faiyaz Khan Saheb was the most well-known exponent of Agra Gharana and master khayal vocalist, who served for a long time as court musician of Baroda (where he was awarded the Gyan Ratna'), says faculty member Rajesh Kelkar, who will be taking students to the mazaar'.
