VADODARA: With the annual general meeting (AGM) of Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) slated on April 27, members of the association are geared up to raise several queries. Some of them are upset with the BCA for its failure to build its own stadium in the past nine years and over lack of transparency in the administration.
Sheetal Mehta, a member, has shot off a letter to BCA secretaries demanding explanation over several issues.
Mehta also plans to raise the queries during the AGM that is presided over by BCA president Chirayu Amin. "When the new management came to power in 2002 after ousting former BCA secretary Jaywant Lele, it had promised several things. One of them was to build a stadium. But today after nine years, the association has not been able to even buy land for the stadium," said Mehta.
"We are losing out on international matches as we don`t have a stadium of our own. The association has enough funds but we don`t understand what is taking so long for the management to buy a good piece of land," added Mehta. He also said BCA has been finalising land deals for the stadium by paying crores of rupees in advance.
"But, the land deals never materialised. However, BCA management claims that it received the advance money back along with interest. Are we in the business of money lending?" questioned Mehta. Another BCA member Jayesh Verma has raised questions about expenses and number of members that the association has.
"We will raise these issues at the AGM," Mehta said.
BCA vice-president
Sanjay Patel said, "We have got the letters from some BCA members in which they have raised some issues about stadium land and accounts . Their queries will be answered in detail during the AGM on Wednesday." BCA secretary Sachin Dalvi was not available for comments.
