VADODARA: Five persons, including a woman, were sentenced on Wednesday to life imprisonment by the sessions court here for murdering a man in 2018. The five had stabbed
Ilyas Memon
, an auto-rickshaw driver, to death in Tandalja area and also assaulted Ilyas’s father.
In July 2018,
Ilyas
had got into arguments with Farhan Sheikh and his uncle
Munaf Sheikh
over parking issues in the area.
After some time, Farhan’s father
Farooq Sheikh
accosted Ilyas and picked up an argument with him. The police said that Farooq then stabbed Ilyas several times while Farhan and Munaf too assaulted the deceased.
Farooq’s wife Farida also slapped Ilyas during the ruckus. After the incident, Ilyas was rushed to Gotri hospital but he didn’t survive. The crime branch arrested Farooq, Farhan, Munaf, Farida and
Pervez
Sheikh a day after the murder. A video of the incident had gone viral on the social media.
Cops presented evidence, including video footage, statements of witnesses and medical reports, in the court.
