VADODARA: The Vadodara district collector had issued directives to keep all schools and colleges in the district closed in the wake of possible damage due to cyclone Biparjoy, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) centre in Vadodara conducted exams for students on Friday.

The IGNOU centre conducted the exams at the unit building of M S University’s Faculty of Commerce. MSU officials said they had informed the IGNOU centre regarding the collector’s decision on Thursday.

“We had informed IGNOU Vadodara centre about the district administration’s decision to keep all schools and colleges closed on Friday. The Vadodara centre coordinators too had informed the Ahmedabad regional centre which in turn had informed its central office regarding the district administration’s decision,” said an official of MSU.

“But since the final decision regarding postponing or rescheduling of the exams is taken centrally and there was no communication from the central office, the Vadodara centre went ahead with its scheduled exams,” said the official.

Sources said four other IGNOU centres — Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Daman — where similar directives had been issued by the respective district administrations also conducted exams on Friday.
