History-sheeter Kachhiya granted bail
Vadodara: Notorious history-sheeter Kalpesh Patel, alias Kachhiya, was granted bail by a court in the city on Thursday in connection with an offence of extorting high interest on loan. Police said they will question Kachhiya about his businesses and whether he is resorting to any illegal activities."We are trying to ascertain if Kachhiya is extorting high interest on loans from other people too. Also, the focus is on inquiring if he is involved in other illegal activities," said a senior police officer.During interrogation, Kachhiya, who was arrested on Wednesday, allegedly admitted to have given money on loan to Naresh Nainani, a fruit trader, through Santosh Bhavsar.Nainani tried to consume phenyl last month after Bhavsar came to his shop and demanded more interest on the loan of Rs 47 lakh. Nainani later filed a complaint against Bhavsar at Navapura police station, where he said he had already paid Rs 1.75 crore to Bhavsar. Police arrested Bhavsar, who told them that the money he loaned to Nainani came from Kachhiya. Kachhiya then went missing from the city for nearly 15 days before being caught from Daman. Kachhiya has over 20 offences registered against him at various police stations in the city. A police officer involved in the investigation claimed that Kachhiya was planning to shift abroad with his family. "His son moved to Canada four years ago for studies, and he is now working there in a shop. Kachhiya too is planning to move out of the country in the coming years," the officer said.
