VADODARA: Under-14 team of Hindu Gymkhana has made a record of sorts by winning the Under-14 DK Gaekwad tournament for the second consecutive time this year. The U-14 team performed consistently this season to become the champions after defeating some of the best sub-junior level teams.
Hindu Gymkhana team crushed Akota Sports Club in the finals on Wednesday to win the match by a convincing margin.
The Hindu team in fact hasn't lost any of the 12 matches it has played in the DK Gaekwad Tournament in the last two years. "Our players had been practicing hard for the tournament and they got the results. Also, our confidence was high as we had won the same tournament last year," said Pradeep Date, coach of Hindu Gymkhana.
Hindu Gymkhana scored 334 runs for the loss of five wickets in its first innings in the finals. Akshay Brahmbhatt scored 102 runs while Kartik Kakade scored 108 without losing their wickets to help their team post a big total. Akota Sports Club (ASC), on the other hand, was all out for just 129 runs. Brahmbhatt and Kakade bagged three wickets each for Hindu Gymkhana.
ASC managed to score 14 runs by losing one wicket in its second innings. Hindu Gymkhana team defeated strong teams like Baroda Sports Club, Shreyas High School and Mohinder Amarnath Academy to win the tournament. Hindu Gymkhana performed similarly in last year's DK Gaekwad tournament where it won all its six matches. "Many of our cricketers have played in Baroda Cricket Association's (BCA) U-14 team and Gujarat team as well. We have experienced players who can deliver when it matters," Date added.
