VADODARA/ ANAND: Caught for drinking a fortnight ago, this Jamnagar resident was all set to be freed from Borsad sub-jail as the court had granted him bail. But a jailbreak plan hatched by his co-prisoner gave him such a high that he chose the risky way over an easy release.

On Wednesday, the Anand police nabbed Pinju alias Pintu Sangariya, one of the four undertrials who had scaled a 20 foot wall and escaped on September 2. In fact, his parents were going to approach the jail authorities to submit the bail papers on Saturday, not knowing that their son would soon be behind bars again, this time with scant chances of getting the court's leniency.

Pramodkumar K Diyora, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Petlad told TOI that they got a tip-off that Sangariya may reach Borsad court. "As soon as he came there, our team in waiting nabbed him," he said. Sangariya is the second undertrial to be arrested after Ashwin Thakor who was nabbed on Sunday.

Investigation has revealed that Sanjay Parmar, a resident of Borsad's Dehvan village and an accused in a murder case was the mastermind of the escape. Thakor and Sangariya have also revealed that Parmar had hatched the plan.

Parmar had allegedly cut the wooden plank under the iron bar of the barrack gate using a hacksaw blade and removed the bars.

"However, when he was removing the iron bars, the three other prisoners woke up. Parmar instigated the three others to escape with him. They climbed the tin roof sheets, scaled the 20-foot-tall boundary wall, and jumped out," said a senior police official.

The cops have continued their efforts to nab two other escapees including Parmar and Jaydeep Rathod, a resident of Borsad's Chuva village who is facing trial in a rape case. Meanwhile, four guards who were on duty on Saturday have been suspended for negligence in duty.
