VADODARA: The Panchmahal and Dahod police have cracked down on unauthorised use of explosives for sinking wells. Four persons have been arrested till date in two different cases registered by officers of the two districts and 356 detonators and 372 gelatine sticks have been recovered in all.
Police had waylaid two tractors carrying the explosives after it came to light that the explosives were being carried by persons who were not authorised to do so recently.

In the recent past, similar cases have been reported in the region.
Panchmahal police arrested two persons at Popatpura village near Godhra when they were travelling with a stash of 170 gelatine sticks and the same number of detonators. While the accused Govind Raisinh Rathod and Raisinh Shabhai Gohil were carrying explosives, the permit was in somebody else's name.
A similar incident came to light in Fatehpura in Dahod where Raisinh Bhabhor and Naran Mangilal, both residents of Rajasthan, were nabbed with explosives. As many as 186 detonators and 202 gelatine sticks were found in their possession.
In both cases, the accused have claimed that they were to use the explosives for deepening of wells. Police have registered offences under the Explosives Act and are conducting further investigations.
