Fine arts student electrocuted on campus

Vadodara: A pall of gloom descended at MS University's Faculty of Fine Arts after a first-year masters' student was electrocuted on the premises on Monday afternoon.

According to MSU officials, the student Kajal Chaudhary, who was enrolled in the painting department, suffered an electric shock in the lobby of the first floor. The 22-year-old was a native of Valsad district.

"She placed an electric rod for heating water in a bucket in the lobby for some artwork on which she was working. Prima facie, the incident happened when she returned and touched the rod without wearing footwear. The lobby was wet due to rain," MSU's registrar Dr KM Chudasama told TOI.

Faculty dean Ambika Patel said that she was told about the incident by some students around 3.30pm and the student's parents were informed.

Kajal was taken to Narhari Hospital near Kamatibaug, but she was declared dead upon arrival. Her body was taken for postmortem to the SSG Hospital.

Following the tragic death, the garba committee of the faculty announced that it has decided to cancel Monday's event.
