Double murder accused lands in police custody

VADODARA: Over three-and-half years after he committed a double murder, Vinodprasad Mahanto was arrested by Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Friday from Vadsar area of the city.
Mahanto was one of the accused in a murder offence wherein a couple staying in Indiranagar Colony in Vadsar was murdered in March 2010. Bodies of Satnamsingh Saini (52) and Ragini Vaid (42) were found from a sanitary well next to their house in the colony.
Investigations revealed that the duo was murdered inside their house and their bodies dumped in the well. The duo used to stay together but was not married. The police had said that Saini had filed an application against his neighbours over some dispute. The police had then registered first information report against Shivshankar Sahu, Vinodprasad Mahanto, Balram Sahu and Kunal Mahanto, all residents of Bihar.
All the four accused had fled from the city after committing the offence and were on the run. Crime branch sleuths got a tip-off that Vinodprasad had arrived in the city to sell off his house in Indiranagar Colony in Vadsar. The arrested Vinodprasad near Vadsar overbridge. The police are now trying to find out about the whereabouts of other three accused.
