VADODARA: A senate member of M S University has demanded that the screening-cum-evaluation committee constituted by MSU for scrutinizing applications for various teaching posts be disband.
Highlighting lapses in handling the process in case of a teacher from Vallabh Vidyanagar, senate member Dr I I Pandya has demanded that all applications for the teaching posts should be forwarded to the heads of departments (HoDs) for evaluation and recommendations to call for the interview.

Recently, based on recommendations of university-appointed selection committee, the university had conducted interview of Dr Apurva Shah, head of information technology department at Vallabh Vidyanagar- based G H Patel College of Engineering and Technology for a teaching post at the department of computer science at faculty of technology and engineering.
Although the selection committee recommended Shah's appointment for the post, Shah's employer (Charutar Vidya Mandal) has decided not to accept his resignation as he had not taken NOC from the institute before applying at MSU.
"This highlights that the scrutiny and evaluation committee formed at MSU has miserably failed in scrutiny and verification of documents," said Pandya, adding that earlier too Baroda University Teachers Association (BUTA) had registered its dissent against the process adopted by MSU for open selection of teaching posts.
"The University Grants Commission (UGC) has already scrapped performance appraisal system of evaluation. In meeting of UGC held on October 22, 2012, under chairmanship of UGC chairman professor Ved Prakash, specific reasons for removing academic performance indicator (API) and performance based appraisal system (PBAS) for recruitment of teaching faculties in various cadres have been cited," Pandya said on Friday.
