Vadodara: The entire detection squad (D-staff) of the city police was disbanded by Monday after several complaints of irregularities surfaced against them. City police commissioner
Shamsher Singh issued an order and directed all the police stations to do away with the D-staff members. “I had got complaints that members of the D-staff had developed vested interests and they were not doing their job properly.
So, the squads have been disbanded.
Now on, the concerned DCPs will decide if they need D-staff in their area and they can finalise the names,” Singh told TOI. The move came after a liquor seizure raid in Raopura a couple of days ago.
The D-staff in every police station focuses on detecting crimes and busting gambling as well as liquor dens in its jurisdiction. The detection squad includes constable, head constable as well as police sub-inspector too. “The PIs often rely too much on the D-staff which is not good,” a police official added. TNN
