Vadodara: A businessman from the city was duped out of Rs 9.4 lakh by people who posed as bank employees. Mahendra Vasava, a resident of Subhanpura, registered a complaint of cheating against five persons at Gorwa police station.
Vasava told police he came in contact with one of the accused, Pranav Patel, through a friend. Patel helped the complainant get a Rs 2 lakh loan, which won his trust. Vasava asked Patel for help in getting a Rs 10 lakh loan last year.
Patel told Vasava he could help him get the loan, but it would mean Vasava would have to spend some money. Patel then introduced Vasava to Chirag Rajput, Rohan Patel, Chetan Patel and one Paresh.
Patel told Vasava they were bank officials who would help him. The accused kept demanding money from Vasava on various pretexts and took over Rs 9.4 lakh.
When Vasava didn't get the loan, he demanded his money back, but the accused refused and threatened him instead.
