Businessman conned of Rs 2.15 crore
VADODARA: A Bharuch-based businessman was allegedly looted by some persons, including a fake cop, on November 19 in the city.
Shah told the police that Chauhan introduced himself as a crime branch sleuth and then threatened him.
“Shah’s application says Kahar and Chauhan sat in his car and then took him to Waghodia area. There were six other people, including a woman in other cars, who accompanied Kahar and Chauhan. Shah was taken near Waghodia police station,” the police said.
Kahar and Chauhan then threatened Shah and his accountant with a revolver and fled with Rs2.15 crore cash.
Police sources said Shah wanted to convert the cash, which was black money, into white money. Kahar had promised that he would help him convert his cash into white money following which he came down to Vadodara. The police said Shah wasn’t coming forward to file an FIR.
“We have received an application but no FIR has been filed yet,” said joint police commissioner D J Patel.
Sources said Shah even tried to get his money through some local politicians but his attempts failed following which he approached the police.
Senior police officials also said there was no connection between Rs2.15 crore loot and Rs31 lakh recovered from a BJP councillor’s brother three days ago.
