Burglars scoff at police patrolling, target two houses

Vadodara: Despite claims of intense police patrolling, burglars continue to have a free run in the city. Two complaints of burglary were registered in the city in last 24 hours.

In the first complaint of burglary lodged with the Makarpura police station, resident of the area, Pragnesh Parmar, 31, told the police that there was a break-in at his house at Gold City in Tarsali sometime between March 2 and 4 when he was away. According to the police, the burglars broke into his house through the main door. They then opened the safe in the bedroom and stole gold ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh apart from Rs 15,000 in cash. The burglars also stole Parmar’s aadhaar card and RC book.

Another complaint of burglary was filed by 50-year-old Shilpa Patel, a resident of Vasna Road with Gotri police. Patel told the police that her house which was under lock, had been burgled on Saturday morning. The burglars broke open the safe and stole gold ornaments worth Rs 1.14 lakh including cash.

The city has been witnesses a spate of burglaries as the Sikhligar gang is allegedly getting active here. The cops have formed several teams to patrol different areas and are also checking vehicles at night to ensure that crime rates reduce in the city.
