Builder's daughter among 5 arrested in cheating case

VADODARA: A team of the state CID (crime) picked up daughter of a well-known city-based builder along with five other people from the city late on Wednesday night.
Dolly Kanti Patel and others were arrested in a cheating case of Rs 150 crore and taken to Ahmedabad. The accused prepared forged documents and transferred a huge piece of land in their name. Officials of district registrar too have been named as accused in the case.
Dolly's father Kanti is also an accused in the case as he has been charged with conning people by transferring the concerned land in his own name after selling it. He is yet to be.
"The five persons were produced before a local court," DIG, CID (crime) A K Jadeja said.
According to the complaint, Kanti had sold a huge piece of land in Waghodia in 1984 by forming five societies. The land was plotted and sold to several buyers. However, in 2010 he allegedly connived with heads of the five societies and registrar officials to transfer the land registered as Gayatrinagar Co-operative Housing Society in his own name.
The others arrested in the case are Haresh Patel, Sachin Patel, Kishor Bhatt and Ashok Patel. Two other accused Jitendra Patel and Jash Patel are yet to be arrested. The FIR registered by Divyang Jha, resident of Urmi Society, Productivity Road states that the accused connived together and prepared forged documents, stamp papers and permission letters to transfer the land sold to the complainant in their own name.
When the complainant learnt about it, he approached the state CID (crime) and registered an offence. The cops investigated the case and collected thousands of pages of evidence before arresting the accused.
