VADODARA: His uninterrupted routine of practising Surya Namaskar since the age of five has fetched Hetanshu Patel, now 14, hard-earned laurels at such a young age.
A student of Bright School, VIP Road, Hetanshu, had attempted the record of performing 13 rounds of Surya Namaskar on February 19 on the occasion of Maha Shivratri in 79 seconds. He received the certificate recently for his feat that even placed the boy in the hallowed pages of India Book of Records.
Hetanshu was in Class 8 when he attempted the record and achieved it in one minute and 19 seconds.
“Even during the Covid-19 induced pandemic, he would perform 108 Surya Namaskar and subsequent sets of it – 108, 130 and 260 (20 sets of Surya Namaskar) in a single sitting,” said father Jignesh Patel, adding that his son’s daily routine includes 13 Surya Namaskars every morning.
“Apart from Surya Namaskar, he also practices other yoga postures as well. This practice has helped him gain good energy and motivation to concentrate in his studies, perform extra-curricular activities like chess, swimming and even flute recitals,” said Patel, adding that yoga has helped Hetanshu in performing ‘midbrain activation’, a pseudoscientific training method that allows development of blind vision and improve memory and concentration.
