Book to prevent fire disasters launched

VADODARA: Former principal of M S University’s Polytechnic College, Dilip Patel, on Sunday launched a book called ‘Fire prevention: life safety and fire protection’ that mentions simple tips on how to protect yourself from fire disasters “This book is based on the Gujarat Comprehensive Development Control Regulations, the Gujarat Fire Act 2013 which was amended in 2021 and the National Building Code which has now become an integral part of the Gujarat Fire Act,” said Patel, who in 2021 was appointed by Gujarat government as fire safety officer. .

The book provides a simple understanding on fire safety rules in Gujarati. Interestingly, while most of the definitions of terminologies are in form of sentences, the book has a chapter where even the definitions have been supported through visuals/images for common man’s understanding.

“There are simple ways through which fire disasters can be averted. For instance, currently buildings have space for movement of fire fighting vehicles. But if the design of the building is such that the vehicle cannot take a turn, it is difficult even for fire fighters to carry out rescue work,” he said.
