Bogus admissions scam kingpin remanded in custody

Bogus admissions scam masterminds Hemant Zhala and M S University (MSU) senate member Kamlesh Mehta were remanded in police custody for eight days on Thursday by a local court. Zhala and Mehta will now be interrogated by Sayajigunj police that is also investigating the bogus admissions scam along with Raopura police.

VADODARA: Bogus admissions scam masterminds Hemant Zhala and M S University (MSU) senate member Kamlesh Mehta were remanded in police custody for eight days on Thursday by a local court. Zhala and Mehta will now be interrogated by Sayajigunj police that is also investigating the bogus admissions scam along with Raopura police.
"We will now interrogate Zhala and Mehta about the scam and try to trace the money that was exchanged while selling bogus degrees.

We questioned several MSU officials to understand the admissions procedure and how the names of two bogus students appeared in the admission roll list," said Sayajigunj police inspector H J Kin.
Both Zhala and Mehta were interrogated by Raopura police but the investigators failed to extract substantial information from them. The Sayajigunj police had registered separate FIR against two students Viral Panchal and Kunal Patel for buying bogus degrees. The students had claimed that they bought the degrees from Zhala.
