Six remanded in SIT custody till Jan 25

Vadodara: Six people out of the 18 arrested for the boat capsize tragedy were remanded to the custody of the special investigation team (SIT) till Jan 25 on Saturday.The SIT had sought 10 days remand for custodial interrogation of the six in the court of an additional senior civil judge. Those arrested were Shantilal Solanki, manager of the recreation facility; boat operators Ankit Vasava; and Nayan Gohil, and Bhimsinh Yadav, Vedprakash Yadav, and Rashmikant Prajapati who were partners in the Kotia Projects. Since the Baroda Bar Association (BBA) had resolved that none of its members would appear for the accused, the District Legal Services Authority provided a lawyer to the accused. Bhavin Patel, appeared for the accused, argued that most of the details that the police wanted to get during the interrogation were already available on record. Advocate Hitesh Gupta appeared with the prosecution representing deceased schoolteacher Falguni Patel’s husband Manish Patel.The district government pleader Anil Desai and Gupta pressed for the remand arguing that it was crucial for investigations to progress.
