VADODARA: A BJP corporator and his associates were booked for allegedly rioting and causing hindrance in the work of government officials after they manhandled an engineer of Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) on Tuesday morning.
According to police, corporator Mahesh Rabari and his associates Mukesh Rabari, Mahendra and Thakore alias Lalo Parmar attacked a team of GEB and MGVCL officials, who had gone to disconnect the power supply at the corporator's factory in Wadi area.
GEB and MGVCL teams have been conducting raids at different units to check power theft, bill clearance and illegal connections for the past two days. "At 7.30 am on Tuesday, they went to Gajra Wadi area on the outskirts and raided Mahalaxmi Plastic Works, owned by Mahesh. He had a pending bill of Rs 24,505 which he promised to pay by evening," said an official.
However, as the team was checking another connection in a nearby factory, Mahesh and his men allegedly attacked the checking team leader MJ Parmar and Hitesh Parmar, junior engineer with MGVCL. They allegedly slapped them and fled after the ruckus.
A complaint was lodged with Wadi police station. Police have booked Rabari and his associates under sections 114, 142, 143, 323 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code. All accused are absconding, police said.
