Vadodara: The long wait of Baroda cricketers for their well-deserved prizes and trophies finally ended on Monday. The Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) gave away prizes and trophies to the best performing cricketers at a function held in the city. Some of the cricketers and coaches had been upset as they had been waiting for last four years to get the awards.
BCA on Monday gave away prizes for the 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 season.
The association gave away Rs 21 lakh cash prizes and dozens of trophies to the men and women cricketers who performed well in the local as well as BCCI matches. Some BCA officials said that the lackadaisical attitude of the office-bearers led to the undue delay of prize giving ceremony. “It was a challenge for the association to hold prize distribution ceremony of three seasons but we did it with the support of our staff,” said Amul Jikar, BCA treasurer.
Over 450 persons including former cricketers like Nayan Mongia, Atul Bedade, Narayan Satham, Connor Williams and Ravi Deshmukh attended the event apart from the prize winning cricketers and their parents. BCA gave away awards for best performances in the H D Zaveri League, Under-14 D K Gaekwad Three-Day Tournament, Under-16 Maharani Shantadevi Inter-School Tournament, Under-16 Captain Vijay Hazare Tournament, Under-19, Mamasaheb Ghorpade Tournament, Kiran More Premier League T20 Tournament and Anshuman Gaekwad Premier League One Day tournament.
