VADODARA: Young cricketers from the city, who slogged it out in the middle for the last one year, got their due on Friday when Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) awarded them with trophies and cash prizes. Junior cricketers and other teams were handed over the trophies by Mrunalinidevi Puar, chairperson of BCA's women's cricket wing at Surya Palace hotel amid senior BCA officials.
Yusuf Pathan, who was invited as chief guest, interacted with youngsters and gave tips to improve their game. "I have played with many of the junior players present here and I want you all to play best cricket like this. Maintain discipline and try to raise your game and BCA's name," Yusuf told them.
The Kiran More International Cricket Academy (KMICA) won Under-19 Mamasaheb Ghorpade Tournament for 2008-09, while Hindu Gymkhana ended as runners-up. Aditya Reddy was declared man of the series, Jaykishan Kolsawala was named best batsman and Bhargav Bhatt and Sunil Sharma were named best bowlers.
Hindu Gymkhana won the Late Jaising Rao Surve Under-19 one day tournament and KMICA became runners-up. Aditya Waghmode won the man of the series tournament, Hitesh Solanki won batsman of the tournament and Jyot Chhaya won bowler of the tournament.
Hindu Gymkhana won Under-14 D K Gaekwad tournament while Baroda Sports Club won Under-16 Captain Vijay Hazare tournament. The tournament committee of 2008-09 comprising of Vijay Jaiswal, Vijay Sawant, Rashmi Shah, Parag Patel, Ajit Kanitkar, Milind Pradhan and Jay Bakshi created a record of sorts by organizing 14 tournaments and 509 matches in a year.
Reliance team won both Premier League three-day and one-day tournament apart from G Kishan Chand Monsoon League. H D Zaveri League Group A (three-day) was won by KMICA.
