Another youth runs nude on MSU campus

VADODARA: In yet another incident that raises security concerns on MSU campus, a mentally challenged youth ran almost naked on the university campus on Friday and was beaten up by students before being rescued by his family.
According to eyewitnesses, the 18-year old youth who was being taken to the Karelibaug mental hospital by his father and elder brother ran away from the railway station area and entered into the science faculty premises, almost naked.
Science faculty students, who earlier this month, had witnessed similar bizarre scenes by a youth for two continuous days, misunderstood the youth to be a prankster and started thrashing the boy.
"It was then that the boy's father approached the students of the faculty and informed them that he was being taken to the hospital for treatment but had run away from the station area," said student leader Krunal Patel. The students then provided drinking water to the boy and an autorickshaw was called in to ensure that the family reaches their destination.
The family is believed to hail from Modasa town in Sabarkantha district and had come to the city for the first time for treatment of the boy.
The incident has, however, once again raised questions on the security of the campus. Earlier, a youth had created ruckus on January 8 and January 9 by running nude on the campus. It was only after students nabbed and thrashed the prankster that he was handed over to the Sayajigunj police. The Sayajigunj police had then preferred avoiding a police complaint on the matter and handed over the youth to SSG hospital but the youth even managed to escape from the hospital.
