The mobile phone was found when one of the inmates Mukesh Thakor was caught red-handed while he was trying to hide the phone behind a bulb holder in a cell in yard 12. Thakor was caught during a routine check inside his cell on Saturday afternoon. When Thakor, an undertrial, was interrogated about who else had used the seized phone he revealed the names of six other inmates.

The other users include three undertrials – Hasmukh Raval, Shanmuganathan Chettiar and Faiyaz Afzal Sheikh – and detainees of PASA (Prevention of Anti-Social Activities) Act Sajimiya Nagori, Taufiqmiya alias Mamu Malek and Imran alias Hitler Posti.

Police said that they will investigate about the source of the mobile phone and will also check the call detail records of the number. “We will question all those persons to whom calls were made from the seized phone,” said a police official. tnn
