238 fall ill after wedding feast in Dahod village, 5 serious

Vadodara/Rajkot: At least 238 people suffered food poisoning after consuming food served at a wedding feast in Abhlod village of Garbada taluka in Dahod district late Monday night.Five of the affected persons were reported to be in serious condition and remained hospitalised. Most patients complained of severe vomiting and acute abdominal pain soon after the meal.The wedding function was held at the residence of Bharat Rathod, where dinner was served between 6pm and 11pm. Soon after the feast, villagers began reporting symptoms of illness. According to officials, nearly 1,100 people had attended the function and partaken in the meal.According to sources, the menu included paneer curry, a coconut-based sweet and mango juice. Health officials suspect that one of these food items may have caused the illness, though the exact source of contamination is yet to be confirmed.As reports of people falling ill increased, patients were rushed to the Abhlod Primary Health Centre for treatment. "While around 1,100 people had consumed the food, 238 developed symptoms. Our teams reached the village promptly and began providing medical treatment," said Dahod chief district health officer Dr Uday Tilawat.Several villagers also shifted their relatives to private hospitals, while others were taken to Zydus Hospital, the district hospital in Dahod. Health department teams conducted door-to-door surveys in the village to identify additional affected persons and ensure timely treatment.Most patients reported vomiting and abdominal pain or discomfort, and six additional cases were reported on Tuesday.Of the total number of affected persons, 59 required hospitalisation. By Tuesday evening, five patients with serious symptoms remained admitted, while the rest were discharged after receiving treatment. In a separate incident, around 100 workers living in a labour colony in Moti Khavdi on the outskirts of Jamnagar suffered food poisoning late on Monday night. The food was reportedly cooked in poor lighting conditions. The affected workers were shifted to the GG Hospital in Jamnagar
