Woman ‘hypnotised’, robbed in Udaipur, police begin probe

Udaipur: A woman in Udaipur fell victim to a bizarre robbery in which she was apparently hypnotised into giving away her gold bangles, chain, mangalsutra, purse, and mobile. The incident took place on Friday evening in Bapu Bazaar under Surajpol police station and was captured on CCTV. Surajpol police station SHO, Sunil Charan said the culprits are suspected to be from outside the local area. Rekha Jain, a resident of Saurabh Enclave Apartment in New Bhupalpura, was returning home when two individuals intercepted her. They asked her if she had ever been to Mathura and about her religious beliefs. During the conversation, she took out 50 rupees and gave it to them for religious purposes. One of the fraudsters took the money, briefly held it, and returned it to her. Then the fraudster sprayed a liquid on the woman’s hand, causing her to lose her senses. After this, she started complying with their commands.The fraudsters instructed her to visit a nearby shop to purchase incense sticks. When she returned, they asked her for her gold bangles, chain, mangalsutra, purse, and mobile. Rekha kept giving them whatever they asked for including 1100 rupees in cash from her purse. CCTV footage showed one of the fraudsters applying a liquid to Rekha’s hand, causing her to lose awareness. The other man is seen repeatedly touching the feet of his accomplice, presenting him as a guru while encouraging Rekha to chant mantras. Once Rekha regained her senses, she realised she had been deceived.
