As per the order, using powers conferred under Section 144 of the Udaipur Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, the district collector prohibited hoisting of flags with religious symbols without competent approval or consent on public properties such as government buildings, corporation buildings, public community buildings, rest houses, public parks, intersections, electric and telephone poles.

The order added that violators would be prosecuted under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

The order came days after five men were arrested for hoisting saffron flags at Kumbhalgarh fort, soon after religious preacher Dhirendra Shastri on March 23 called for doing so.

Police also filed a case against him under various sections, including hurting religious sentiments, for his statement calling for replacing flags of a particular colour with saffron flags at Kumbhalgarh fort.
