UDAIPUR: A 2-year-old boy sitting in his mother's lap on a bike was killed when he was hit on the head by stones thrown by unidentified people in a bid to rob his parents who were returning at night from a wedding ceremony in Dungarpur district on Friday.
The incident took place in Chaurasi police station area where several similar incidents of stone-pelting with the intention of looting have been reported.
According to SHO Chorasi, Amritlal, a married couple,
Vikram and Shilpa, along with their toddler son
Varun were returning home on their bike when the robbers hurled stones at them near Pohri Khaturat.
A stone hit the child on the head while the bike fell to the ground and the parents suffered injuries. The attackers fled from the spot.
Varun was taken to Pohri hospital in critical condition, from where he was referred to Dungarpur district hospital.
Doctor there declared him as brought dead.
After a postmortem on Saturday morning, the child's body was handed over to family members and on the report of the child's father, a case of murder was registered against unknown persons.
Dungarpur SP Kundan Kavariya said that police were on constant vigil to prevent such incidents.
Many have been arrested and sent to jail, he said, adding that misguided youths have taken to pelting stones at passersby with the intention of looting them.
