Leopard enters girls’ hostel, tranquilised

Udaipur: A leopard entered a girls’ hostel in the busy Hiran Magri area of Udaipur on Friday. The 8-10 girls present in the hostel quickly locked themselves in their rooms to safeguard against the wild intruder.The leopard also attempted to attack the hostel cook, who promptly raised an alarm. The Hiran Magri police and a team from the forest department rushed to the scene and used firecrackers to know about the animal’s whereabouts. The forest team tranquilised the leopard after almost five hours.Around 50 girls reside in the hostel. Fortunately, most of them were at college at the time. Forest officer (DFO) Ajay Chittora said that the leopard has been shifted to Sajjangarh Biological Park. TNN

Delhi: Forest officials use drone to spot leopard at Sainik Farms

The forest department employed a drone to search for a leopard that has strayed into Sainik Farms. Patrol teams, including staff from all forest divisions, police, and NGOs, have been increased for the operation. Residents have been asked to stay indoors for safety. The leopard has been spotted twice but not on Sunday. The search will continue for 48 hours before a decision is made.

Efforts are being made to capture the leopard using high-tech methods such as placing meat in an automatic cage. The area is not an ideal habitat for leopards, but it is speculated that the recent snowfall in the upper regions may have driven the animal towards the city. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, and patrols by the police and wildlife department have been increased.
