Leaders of tribal outfits stopped from protesting on Banswara hill

Udaipur/Jaipur: For the second time in 15 days, leaders of tribal outfits attempted to assemble on hills in the Banswara district without permission, but their plans were thwarted by the local police.As per the officials, as many as 100 to 150 tribals, led by Kamal Kant Katara gathered up on a hill for their ongoing demand for reservation in proportion to the population on Friday. The police had been monitoring Katara, who had previously attempted to block an important national highway on August 25. When Katara led protesters to a hill at 6 am, a police team promptly arrived at the scene and escorted them away. Additionally, police arrested 42 individuals, including Katara, for violating regulations. District SP Abhijeet Singh mentioned that a few individuals had climbed onto a water tank, and they were calmed down and subsequently rescued safely.Singh also arrived at the scene and attempted to persuade the protesters, who initially refused to cooperate until police intervened.According to officials, Banswara police team closely monitored every move of Katara following his attempt to organize a protest ahead of the assembly elections in an attempt to block a national highway last month.The police, however, intervened promptly and averted the protest on the highway, thus, preventing a potential disruption to the traffic flow through southern Rajasthan.As per officials, Katara and other leaders again tried to organise a protest on the hills which is barely 200 metres from the national highway.
