Jaipur undergrad arrested for ‘death threat’ to Udaipur MP

Udaipur: A 21-year-old undergraduate of a college in Jaipur was arrested on Friday for allegedly threatening to kill Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat through a post on social media. Police are also looking for another accused in this connection.
The accused, Kunti Bhagora alias Kuni, 21, belongs to a Scheduled Tribe and is a resident of Bhagora Fala village under Charpotia gram panchayat in Pratapgarh district. After arresting him, Goverdhan Vilas police presented him before the additional chief judicial magistrate’s court in Udaipur on Friday. The court released him on bail.
Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal said Bhagora is a student pursuing graduation in Jaipur. “He was arrested because his comment (on social media) was objectionable and based on a certain ideology. The search for another individual is going on,” he said.
During interrogation, Bhagora said he does not have any political affiliations but was annoyed by the BJP MP’s remarks that Bharat Tribal Party (BTP) received fewer votes than NOTA in Gujarat and also the MP’s description of participants in the Kankari Dungri incident as outsiders from Jharkhand. Offended by these comments, Bhagora had posted a threatening message on social media.
He expressed regret for his action, said the SP.
The threatening comment addressed to Rawat had said, “You will face the same fate as Kangana Ranaut. People have erred in electing you as an MP. You will soon be expelled from Udaipur, and remember, Mannalal, your ‘vadia’ (immersion) will happen soon. Jai Johar Zindabad.” After the threat became known, a high-level committee from the Chief Minister’s Office had launched an investigation, and the MP had reported the incident to the Udaipur SP.
