Udaipur: In a crackdown on illegal activities ahead of assembly elections, police in Pratapgarh on Tuesday seized a large consignment of poppy husk, weighing about 33 quintals (3,300 kg). The market value of the poppy husk is estimated to be nearly Rs 5 crore. Police said they intercepted a truck at a barricade set up in Dhamotar, and found 33 quintals of poppy husk hidden under corn sacks kept in the vehicle. tnn

Delhi businessman held in Bhilwara with poppy husk

A businessman from New Delhi was arrested in Rajasthan for smuggling drugs. The businessman, identified as Pradeep Kumar, turned to opium smuggling after his garment export business ran into regulatory troubles and he accumulated a debt of Rs 50 lakh. The police found Rs 10 lakh worth of poppy husk in his vehicle and detained a minor who was traveling with him. Investigations revealed that a moneylender in New Delhi is the main kingpin of the drug smuggling racket.
