12 women strip, drag widow on streets over alleged love affair

Udaipur: Suspecting an illicit affair, more than 12 women allegedly stripped and dragged a widow on the open streets of Devla village under Bekariya police station in Udaipur district on June 29. The incident came to light when the video went viral.According to Udaipur SP Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav, the widow lost her husband a year ago and was living in Devla village with her five-year-old son. On allegations of having an illegal affair with the husband of another woman, around twelve women of the village reached the widow's house and pulled her out holding her hair. The group of women tore her clothes and started beating her with shoes and slippers while the victim kept pleading for mercy. Some men of the village who were witnessing the incident, instead of saving the video, made a video.When the video surfaced, Udaipur district Collector Tarachand Meena and SP Bhuvan Bhushan reached the spot on Saturday. They met the women in the village. They inquired about the victim's health and brought her to Udaipur hospital along with them for treatment. She was later discharged after treatment.Four persons, all residents of Pali, have been detained by the Bakeriya police on Saturday afternoon for their involvement. They have been identified as Ramibai Garasia (24), who is the main accused, Reshmi Garasia (24), Vinod Kumar Garasia (25) and his brother. Based on the video, a case has been registered and other accused will also be arrested.
