Woman student abducted by man, rescued
Karur: Karur district police rescued a 20-year-old woman college student who was abducted in broad daylight near the Thanthonimalai bus stand on Monday.
According to police, the woman, pursuing third-year BA, was on her way to college with her friends, when Nandagopal, 25, came there in a four-wheeler and abducted her. Police said that Nandagopal had been pursuing a one-sided love affair with the woman for more than a year.
Based on the woman's sister, Periyanayaki's complaint at the Thanthonimalai police station, Karur district SP K Feroze Khan Abdullah, ordered the formation of special teams led by DSPs from Karur city and Karur rural.
The teams then analyzed footage and tracked mobile phone signals to locate the accused. By night, police traced Nandagopal and the woman to his grandmother's house in Dindigul. The student was rescued safely, and five individuals, including Nandagopal's mother Kala, his friends Karuppasamy (the four-wheeler driver), Palanisamy, and Saravanan, were arrested for their involvement in the abduction and interrogated before being brought to Trichy on Tuesday.
