Trichy: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department at Trichy International Airport foiled an attempt to smuggle gold from a passenger on Thursday.In a statement, customs officials said AIU officers intercepted a woman passenger who arrived on an IndiGo flight on Thursday morning. During inspection, officers recovered six pieces of 24-karat gold weighing 155 grams.The gold, in fragmented chain form, had been concealed inside the knot of the woman’s saree. Officials seized the contraband and launched further investigation.This is the second major gold seizure at Trichy airport this month. Earlier, the customs AIU team recovered six abandoned gold bars weighing 600 grams from the lavatory of an aircraft that arrived from Singapore.
