Trichy: Collectors of central districts unfurled the national flag and distributed welfare assistance during the 76th
Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.
In Trichy, collector Pradeep Kumar took part in the Republic Day event at the armed forces ground. He presented the chief minister's medals to 90 police personnel. He felicitated 426 officials from various departments and members of voluntary organisations for their service for the public.
The district administration also distributed welfare aid to the tune of 52 lakh to 28 beneficiaries under various schemes. The central zone police chief, district superintendent of police and deputy commissioner of police were present at the event. Students from various schools performed cultural shows at the event.
Earlier in the day, the collector paid tributes at the war memorial near Gandhi Market by laying a wreath.
Similarly, Prabhakar, executive director of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), hoisted the national flag at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kailaspuram township in Trichy. He said BHEL is seeing a surge in new orders across major sectors, including coal-based thermal power plants.
In Karur, collector M Thangavel hoisted the national flag at the district sports stadium. He then distributed sewing machines to two beneficiaries, issued 12,000 to one under the agriculture development scheme, and issued 3,30,000 to two under the sub-mission on agricultural mechanization (SMAM) scheme. He also gave away 39,000 for one beneficiary and 6,000 for another under the rainfed area development scheme.
Perambalur collector Grace Bachao and Ariyalur collector P Rathinasamy also distributed welfare assistance to the beneficiaries in their districts. Similarly, collectors of Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, and Nagapattinam districts unfurled the national flag and received the guard of honour.
