Vijay urges cadres to intensify outreach, cancels campaign events

Trichy: Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Saturday called on party cadres to intensify door-to-door outreach ahead of polling, even as he cancelled some of his scheduled campaign appearances across the state.Vijay, who was slated to campaign in Gummidipoondi in Thiruvallur district on Monday, has cancelled the programme. He is, however, scheduled to visit Kanyakumari on Sunday. "As election day draws near, I have a request," he said in a statement on X. "I call upon all booth agents, party members of TVK, and supporters—men and women who have deep affection for our movement—to step into the field and dedicate themselves to the task." Urging cadres to step up outreach over the next ten days, he said: "Go house-to-house in your respective localities to personally meet people, whom we regard as our own family. Appeal to them to vote for our candidates, identifying them by the ‘Whistle' symbol." Meanwhile, sources said permission has been granted for Vijay to hold a campaign event in Aranthangi on Tuesday between 3 pm and 7 pm, subject to conditions. Vijay last campaigned on Friday in Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, but could not address the gathering as he arrived after the permitted time. A scheduled campaign in Cuddalore on Saturday was also cancelled.
