Two more farmers die 'heartbroken'

TRICHY: Two more farmers died of heart attack near

Thirukkuvalai

in Nagapattinam district on Monday evening and Tuesday adding to the growing number of those who died heartbroken seeing their samba crop wither away due to shortage of water.

According to sources, the deceased, Rajakumaran of Keezhaiyur near Thirukkuvalai, had eight acres of land near Nadukattalai near his village where he raised IR 20 and

36 varieties of paddy under direct sowing.

While he was at home on Monday evening, the farmer developed chest pain and vomited blood. Subsequently he was rushed to a private hospital in

Thiruthuraipoondi

and referred to

Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital

but he died on the way to the hospital. Rajakumaran is survived by wife R Jayalaxmi and two daughters.

Another farmer, P Marimuthu, who was residing opposite Rajakumarans house, also died of heart attack on Tuesday. He was reportedly upset at his friend Rajakumaran's death and swooned and died at his house. He had raised samba paddy on six acres located beside the land of Rajakumaran and that too was in a withered state. He is survived by wife M Sellammal, and a daughter and a son.
