Two killed, eight seriously injured in road accident

Two people were killed and eight others grievously injured in a road accident involving a head-on collision between a car and lorry near Musiri on Sunday. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as P Azhagappan, 45, native of Kezhla Sevalpatti in Karaikudi, and K Sathish, 19, a resident of Alangudi in Pudukottai district.

TRICHY: Two people were killed and eight others grievously injured in a road accident involving a head-on collision between a car and lorry near Musiri on Sunday. According to the police, the deceased have been identified as P Azhagappan, 45, native of Kezhla Sevalpatti in Karaikudi, and K Sathish, 19, a resident of Alangudi in Pudukottai district.
The injured were Tilak Srinivasan, 38, Sarveswaran, 20, Ramu, 19, Lalitha, 40, Sathish, 8, Shanmugavalli, 12, all from Alangudi in Pudukottai, and lorry driver P Selvakumar, 43, native of Dalmiapuram in Ariyalur district, police said.

Selvakumar’s son Ajithan was also sustained minor injuries.
The eight-member group – all were Ayyappa devotees - were returning from Chennai after performing bajan a few days back. They were going to Coimbatore to participate in a similar event.
The accident took place near Sevanthilingapuram village in Musiri around 7am. The truck was heading towards Dalmiapuram cement factory in Ariyalur from Coimbatore.
In the impact, Azhagappan and Sathish, who was on the wheel, died on the spot. The injured were rushed to the government hospital in Musiri and the bodies sent for post-mortem, police sources said. Musiri police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
