TRICHY: Two people were arrested by Trichy police on Sunday for stealing pipes worth Rs 25 lakh meant for smart city project of Trichy corporation.
Based on the complaint from the project contractor M Sathishkumar of Manali in Chennai, Thillai Nagar police arrested supervisor P Bala alias Balakrishnan, 54, of Manali and engineer P Kannan, 29 of Karumandapam in Trichy, for stealing 164 pipes in four measures and 180 gaskets from the materials purchased for the project. The two were working for the contractor in the project. Total worth of the stolen materials was 25 lakh. Cops have recovered materials worth 13.40 lakh and said that the investigation is on to retrieve the rest. Police booked and produced them in court. The court remanded them in judicial custody.
