Trichy: Two people died in separate road accidents in Trichy on Thursday.
According to the Manapparai police, I Abdul Karim, 55, from Kovilpatti Road, Eda street in Manapparai taluk was riding his motorcycle with S Subramani, 68, from Sevalur in Manapparai, as a pillion passenger, on the Dindigul–Trichy national highway on Thursday evening.
A speeding van operated by V Rathinavel, 35, a resident of Cuddalore district, collided with them. Karim sustained grievous head injuries, while Subramani suffered injuries to his head, mouth and right hand.
Local residents rushed to their assistance and transported them to the govt headquarters hospital where Karim was declared dead while Subramani was admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital (MGMGH). Rathinavel was charged with rash and negligent driving.
In another incident, V Gajendran, 51, from Karumalai near Marungapuri, died after being struck by a mini truck near the Manikandam bus stop on the Trichy–Madurai national highway on Thursday afternoon.
The Manikandam police stated on Friday that Gajendran was riding a motorcycle with M Venkatesan, 23, from Kajamalai as a pillion passenger when the mini truck operated by C Moorthy, 27, from Sooriyur in Thiruverumbur collided with them as Gajendran attempted to cross the road. Both sustained injuries and were rushed to MGMGH, where Gajendran was pronounced dead while Venkatesan suffered injuries to his left eyebrow and right leg. He remains under treatment. Moorthy was charged with rash and negligent driving.
