Trichy: An election campaign office of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Srirangam assembly constituency in Trichy district was torched by miscreants on Friday. The thatched shed, measuring about 400 square feet, was located in Kamanayakkanpalayam village near Pettaivaithalai.
On seeing the flames around 2.30am, villagers rushed to the spot and tried to douse them, but the shed was completely gutted. A large digital banner promoting TVK's Srirangam candidate S Ramesh, which had been erected near the office, was also torn and heavily damaged. A complaint was registered at Pettaivaithalai police station by Veera Siva, TVK farmers' wing district secretary. Police have begun investigation and are searching for the suspects even as Ramesh demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
He claimed that opposition parties were planning violent acts against him and his workers on counting day. Ramesh has urged the authorities to provide additional security at the counting centre to ensure that vote counting is conducted fairly and with complete integrity.
