Trichy–Thanjavur NH service roads to be 7 metres wide

Trichy: Authorities on Tuesday clarified that there will be no reduction in the width of service roads proposed along the Trichy–Thanjavur National Highway, following concerns raised by residents over the ongoing land acquisition process.Officials said 7-metre-wide service roads will be constructed on either side of the highway stretch between Palpannai and Thuvakudi.
The clarification came after residents of Thiruverumbur expressed apprehension over a possible reduction in road width, citing a reported drop in land acquisition from 35.5 hectares in 2011 to 15.7 hectares in 2023. Authorities explained that the reduced land requirement was due to a cut in utility land earmarked for pipelines along the highway and not a change in the carriageway width of the service roads. "Service roads will be 7 metres wide; the width will not be reduced. The land requirement was rationalised to reduce the overall project cost," a senior official said. MSID:: 128469789 413 |
